Belmont is a village in the London Borough of Sutton. It is to the south of the town of Sutton, to the east of Ewell and the north of Banstead. It can be accessed using the A217 and is approximately 17 miles north of Gatwick airport.

The village of Belmont did not come into existence until the late 1800s. Belmont railway station was opened in 1865, and its name was given to the settlement that grew around it. The growth of the village has also been attributed to the presence of Banstead Asylum, later known as Banstead Hospital, which opened in 1877.

Today, Belmont is known as the location of Royal Marsden Hospital, a NHS hospital which specialises in cancer treatment. It also home to the Institute of Cancer Research, which is a public research institute working particularly in oncology.

Belmont is also known for its large amount of green space. As well as Belmont Park, the village also contains two nature reserves. Cuddington Meadows is a Grade I Site of Borough Importance for Nature Conservation, and Belmont Pastures is rated as Grade II. Cuddington Meadows, which is mainly chalk grassland and scrub, is best known for its selection of unusual flowering plants, including lady’s bedstraw and greater knapweed.

Belmont’s high street is Station Road, which runs east to west from Belmont Station to St John’s Church, and features many independent shops and restaurants. Bellingham boasts many famous former residents, including David Bellamy, the botanist, author and academic, and James Hunt, the world Formula One motor-racing champion.
